St. Mary’s Health System Adds Intermediate Care Unit

St. Mary's Health System has added a new Intermediate Care (IMC) Unit, providing an additional care option for hospitalized patients who require closer monitoring and specialized nursing care.

Intermediate care is designed for patients whose medical needs require more monitoring and support than is typically provided on a traditional medical-surgical unit. The IMC Unit allows care teams to provide that additional support while keeping patients at St. Mary's when intermediate care is appropriate for their condition.

"Adding intermediate care means we can support more patients with complex medical needs right here at St. Mary's," said Jill Rollins, chief nursing officer/chief operating officer at St. Mary's Health System. "It's an important addition for our patients and for a team that is deeply committed to meeting the needs of this community."

Patients admitted to the IMC Unit may require more frequent assessment, continuous monitoring or additional nursing support based on their condition and treatment plan. Intermediate care can also support patients as their needs change during their hospital stay.

The addition of intermediate care strengthens the range of inpatient services available at St. Mary's and supports the health system's focus on providing patients with appropriate care based on their individual needs.
