Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced today that a 22-year-old man who was convicted by a jury trial in July for possessing an illegal handgun and a high-capacity magazine will be spending an extra decade in prison after two previous convictions.
Arron Edmonds was sentenced by the Honorable Roger McDonough to serve 10 years in state prison followed by five years of post-release supervision after being found guilty of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree.
On Aug. 16, 2024, after being called for a domestic dispute at an apartment on Clinton Avenue, Albany Police found Edmonds in a hallway with a large capacity ammunition feeding device capable of holding 31 rounds in his pocket and a number of rounds of ammunition scattered near his feet. A further search found a Glock 17 handgun in a bag nearby. The gun had been reported stolen in Colonie on Oct. 29, 2017.
At the time of arrest, Edmonds lied to police and told them that he was his brother.
The 10-year sentence will run consecutive to the six years Edmonds is serving on a 2022 Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree conviction out of Rensselaer County and a 2023 Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree conviction in Albany.
Prosecution of this case was handled by Assistant District Attorneys Bryanne Brucato, Bureau Chief of the Street Crimes Unit, and Hannah Merges.
