Upcoming Election Deadlines

The deadline to register to vote, update your registration, and request a by-mail ballot for the November 4th General Election is October 24th.

The November 4, 2025, General Election will include contests for Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, House of Delegates, Commonwealth's Attorney, and Sheriff.

Checking Registration

If you have moved since the last time you voted, please make sure you are registered at your current address. Check your registration at vote.elections.virginia.gov, by email at [email protected], or by calling 703.746.4050.

New Registrations and Address Updates

If you are a U.S. citizen living in Virginia and will be 18 or older by November 4, 2025, you can register to vote by any of the following methods:

• Submit the application online at vote.elections.virginia.gov before midnight, October 24, 2025.
• Register in person at the Office of Voter Registration and Elections (132 N. Royal St., Suite 100) by 5 p.m. on October 24, 2025.
• Download an application at alexandriava.gov/Elections. Print, sign, and mail the completed form to the Office of Voter Registration and Elections, 132 N. Royal St., Suite 100, Alexandria, VA 22314. Applications must be postmarked on or before October 24, 2025.

Voter information letters for new or transferred registrants will be mailed within one week of the registration date.

After the registration deadline, the same day registration period begins. Individuals who choose to register to vote through the same day registration period must do so in person. Starting October 25, 2025, same day registration will be available at the early voting locations or on Election Day at the voting location assigned to their current residential address. Please be aware that individuals who use same day registration process must cast a provisional ballot.

Voting by Mail

Applications to request a by-mail ballot must be received in the Office of Voter Registration & Elections by 5 p.m. on Friday, October 24, 2025. Access an application in one of the following ways:

• Visit vote.elections.virginia.govto submit an application online.
• Downloading the application available on the City's Elections webpage.
• Call Voter Registration & Elections at 703.746.4050 to request that an application is mailed to you. Please consider mail delivery time when you call.

Completed ballots must be either returned to the Office of Voter Registration & Elections by 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, or postmarked by November 4, 2025, and received in the office by noon on Friday, November 7, 2025. To vote in person, an application is not required. Applications should not be submitted before voting in person.

Early Voting

All registered voters in Virginia are eligible to vote early in person or by mail. In-person early voting for this election continues until 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2025. Voters are encouraged to review the sample ballot in advance. For sample ballots and full list of voting hours and locations, visit alexandriava.gov/Elections.

Ballot Drop Boxes

Ballot drop boxes will be available at all polling places on November 4, 2025, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. A secure outdoor drop box, under video surveillance, is available in front of the Office of Voter Registration and Elections 24 hours a day through November 4, 2025, at 7 p.m. A by-mail ballot may be returned at a drop box or by mail.
