On July 16, 2026, at approximately 9:27 a.m., officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), Sand Creek Division, were dispatched to a suspicious death in the 2700 block of Delta Drive. When officers arrived, no immediate clear cause of death could be determined.
Detectives from the homicide unit responded to assume the investigation, and with the assistance of the Coroner's Office, found the adult male had an apparent gunshot wound to the head.
On July 17, 2026, the El Paso County Coroner's Office conducted an autopsy and identified the deceased victim as 53-year-old Cody Applin. While the Coroner's Office will determine the cause and manner of death, this is being investigated as a homicide.
This was the 9th homicide in Colorado Springs this year. Last year at this time, there were 20 homicides.
