On July 1, Chinese Embassy in Ireland hosted a reception for Chinese and European scientists, providing a platform for exchange among scientists from China, Ireland and other European countries attending the 2026 Dragon 6 Mid-term Symposium.
Ambassador Zhao Xiyuan, Zhuang Jia, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation under Ministry of Science and Technology of P.R. China, Jenni Tapio, external relations officer of European Space Agency,William Beausang, Assistant Secretary of Department of Ireland's Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, and Niall Bolger, senior official of Enterprise Ireland delivered speeches respectively. Nearly 200 scientists from China and Europe attended the event.
In his speech, Ambassador Zhao congratulated the successful opening of the 2026 Dragon 6 Mid-term Symposium. He encouraged Irish scientists to join the Dragon Programme in leveraging satellite remote sensing data to conduct research on climate change, environmental protection, resource monitoring as well as disaster prevention and mitigation. He also called for deeper exchanges and cooperation between China and Ireland in the field of Earth observation to jointly address global challenges.
The reception was held in a warm and cordial atmosphere. Chinese and European scientists engaged in in-depth discussions on new opportunities for future science and technology exchanges and cooperation.
