MoDOT to reduce southbound Interstate 55 over Meramec River from five to four lanes

JEFFERSON COUNTY - As part of the Interstate 55 over the Meramec River bridge project, MoDOT will switch traffic to continue work on the southbound bridge construction.

During this stage of construction, once the switch is complete, southbound I-55 will be reduced from five through lanes to four. The four lanes will be split with two lanes on either side of the work zone.

Starting at 7 p.m. Monday, August 17, there will be one lane closed as crews restripe the pavement and move the barrier wall to set up the new traffic switch. The striping and barrier work will only take place nightly.

Drivers should be aware that the exit to Route 141/Arnold (Exit 191) will only be accessible from the right two lanes.

This traffic setup is expected to last from Mid-November to Early December. After this work is complete, lanes will be returned to their normal configuration and construction on the northbound bridge will begin in the spring of 2027.
