Senator Justice Celebrates West Virginia Road Improvements Based on 2023 Data

West Virginia climbed the ranks to 30th from 33rd in the Reason Foundation's Annual Highway Report

LEWISBURG, WV - Today, Senator Jim Justice released a statement celebrating West Virginia climbing three spots in the 29th Annual Highway Report from the Reason Foundation, which was based on 2023 data:

"I'm proud to see West Virginia climbing the ranks in the Reason Foundation's Annual Highway Report. This report, based on 2023 data, proves exactly what I said all along: the roads plan I laid out in my very first State of the State is continuing to deliver beyond what I could've ever imagined. We put real dollars behind our roads through Roads to Prosperity, made major investments in our secondary roads, provided a road maintenance equipment fleet, and so on. Now we're seeing the payoff plain as day. Our foundation is rock-solid, and it's driving real, lasting prosperity across our state," said Senator Jim Justice.

  • Improving infrastructure in West Virginia was a hallmark of Governor Justice's administration.
  • This included the passing of Roads to Prosperity, which delivered $13.6 billion in total infrastructure investments, modernizing roads, bridges, water systems, equipment, and public facilities.
  • While he was Governor, Senator Justice completed the $2.8 billion Roads to Prosperity initiative, with an additional $416 million dedicated to secondary roads.
  • Beyond that, Governor Justice provided a massive road maintenance equipment fleet to WVDOT to enhance roadwork in West Virginia.
  • Roads to Prosperity also funded smaller bridge, paving, and slide repair projects in every county-many of which might have remained untouched for years without this initiative.
