City of Denton Offices and Facilities Closed Monday, Jan. 20 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

DENTON, TX, Jan. 16, 2025 - In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, City offices and facilities will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20 and will resume for normal business on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Community Shelters
Due to the holiday closures, the City of Denton encourages anyone seeking shelter from the frigid winter temperatures to utilize one of our community service providers . These locations are open year-round and serve a number of purposes, including daytime warming stations to escape the weather, a much-needed meal or food items, and/or a place to stay overnight. Please plan ahead by calling or using their online resources to confirm capacity or to see how you can help. Public transportation to the community shelter is available through Denton County Transportation Authority.

Airport
Airport administrative offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20. The air traffic control tower will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., and the airfield will remain open 24 hours per day. Airport Operations is available 24/7 at (940) 349-7722.

Animal Services
The Linda McNatt Animal Care and Adoption Center will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20. To report an animal non-emergency, call (940) 349-8181 and select option 1. In case of an emergency, call 911.

Denton Public Library
All libraries will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20.

Municipal Court
The Municipal Court will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 21. Requests and payments may be submitted online at www.cityofdenton.com/court. The automated pay by phone line (940) 349-7244 also remains available 24 hours per day.

Parks and Recreation
North Lakes Recreation Center, Denia Recreation Center, Denton Senior Center, American Legion Hall Senior Center, Denton Civic Center, and the Denton Natatorium will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreation Center will be open on Mon. Jan. 20 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for the Martin Luther King Day Celebration. It will not be available for regular recreation uses.

The Denton Tennis and Pickleball Center will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20.

The North Lakes Driving Range will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20.

Public Safety
Public safety personnel will be on duty during the holiday. The Denton Police Department non-emergency number is (940) 349-8181, and in case of an emergency, call 911.

Solid Waste and Recycling
There will be no curbside trash, recycling, home chemical collection or yard waste collection on Monday, Jan. 20. Collection will be delayed one day during the week. The City of Denton Landfill will be open from 7 a.m. to noon.

Utilities
Customer Service will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 21. To report a utility service emergency, call Utilities dispatch at (940) 349-7000.
