TDEC Announces Multifamily Housing Rebate Program for Level 2 Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation's Office of Energy Programs announces the launch of the Multifamily Housing Rebate Program for Level 2 electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.

The Rebate Program is funded by the Volkswagen Diesel Settlement Environmental Mitigation Trust (EMT). The trust supports environmental mitigation projects that reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides. Under the Multifamily Housing Rebate Program, $650,000 in EMT funding is available for eligible projects.

Eligible applicants include owners, authorized property managers, homeowner associations and authorized lessees of multifamily housing properties with a minimum of four units in Tennessee. Applicants may apply for rebates for up to 10 charging plugs per site.

Qualifying projects are subject to two funding caps:

• 60% of total eligible project costs, up to $10,000 per charging plug, for projects located at housing developments that meet low-income housing eligibility criteria or are located in significantly burdened census tracts.
• 60% of total eligible project costs, up to $6,000 per charging plug, for all other developments.

Prospective applicants are strongly encouraged to first submit a reservation request for each proposed project location. Reservation requests and rebate applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until funds are exhausted.
