Union City Seeks Community Members to Join the Climate Task Force

UNION CITY, CA - June 29, 2025 - Union City is continuing its commitment to sustainability by launching a comprehensive update to its 2010 Climate Action Plan (CAP), a strategic roadmap to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase community resilience to climate change.

As part of this effort, the Union City Council recently established a new Climate Action Plan Task Force, an advisory body to help shape the updated plan by providing community-based input and guidance throughout the development of the updated CAP.

The seven-member Task Force will include two representatives from the City Council, one member from the Planning Commission, one member from the Human Relations Commission, one member from the Parks & Recreation Commission, and two members from the community. Task Force members are expected to serve for approximately two years, or until the new CAP is formally adopted.

The Task Force will serve in an advisory capacity to City staff and the project team throughout the CAP update process and be responsible for:

• Reviewing and providing input on technical materials and draft documents.
• Identifying opportunities and challenges from a community perspective.
• Helping to prioritize strategies for emissions reductions and climate adaptation.
• Serving as a liaison between the City and broader community stakeholders.
• Supporting public engagement by encouraging community participation.
