Court Street Reconstruction Project to resume March 9

Weather permitting, construction will resume on the Court Street Reconstruction Project on Monday, March 9, 2026.

Court Street will be closed for construction between Seventh Avenue and Fourth Avenue until approximately mid-summer. The intersections at Seventh Avenue and Fourth Avenue with Court Street will remain open to traffic.

Additionally, beginning in April 2026, Court Street will be closed between Muscatine Avenue and Seventh Avenue to complete remaining work on the first phase of the Court Street Reconstruction Project.

Pedestrian impacts

Sidewalks on the north side of Court Street will be closed between Seventh Avenue and Fourth Avenue beginning March 9. Sidewalks on the south side of Court Street will remain open for a few additional weeks.

Sidewalks at Seventh Avenue and Fourth Avenue will remain open during this phase of work for those accessing Longfellow Elementary School or City High School.

Transit impacts

Detours to the 2-Court Street Iowa City Transit bus route will begin March 9 during construction work. Additional information for Transit users will be shared at a later date.
