Congressman Don Davis Delivers Millions for Eastern North Carolina

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Don Davis (NC-01) toured communities across North Carolina's First District to highlight the nearly $54 million he secured for eastern North Carolina through Fiscal Year 2026 Community Project Funding. These investments strengthen infrastructure, public safety, and community development across eastern North Carolina.

"Eastern North Carolina is our home, and our communities deserve support that makes it easier to live, work, and raise a family here. With this nearly $54 million in federal funding, we are delivering 15 projects across nine counties, improving safety, upgrading water infrastructure, and building stronger communities where families thrive," said Congressman Don Davis. "By directing federal resources to these projects, we are helping eastern North Carolina meet today's challenges and prepare for the future."

1. $1,092,000 - Town of Tarboro Wastewater Treatment Plant Denitrification Upgrades Project
Tarboro will upgrade its wastewater treatment plant to mitigate nitrogen in the Tar River, improving long-term water quality.

2. $1,092,000 - Town of Sharpsburg Sewer Infrastructure Rehabilitation Project
Sharpsburg will rehabilitate the town's aging sewer system by repairing sewer mains, rehabilitating sewer lift stations, and addressing sources of inflow and infiltration.

3. $1,092,000 - Northampton County Wastewater Infrastructure Rehabilitation Project
Northampton County will address Garysburg's aging sewer pump stations and deteriorating sewer lines that have led to residential sewer backflows, environmental contamination concerns, and rising costs. Replacing this system will ensure that underserved residents receive clean, safe, and affordable wastewater service.

4. $1,092,000 - Hertford County Water System Improvements Project
Hertford County will expand water service for current residents while providing the infrastructure needed to support new housing and business development.

5. $1,015,000 - Town of Whitakers Community Center Project
Whitakers will renovate a town facility to provide classrooms, work-simulation labs, and a computer center, delivering job training, career-readiness, and workforce development programs tailored to local residents.

6. $1,015,000 - Greene County Senior Center Project
Greene County will provide seniors with safe, purpose-built spaces while fostering intergenerational engagement and shared community resources.

7. $1,000,000 - Bertie County Emergency 911 Center Project
Bertie County will open a new emergency 911 center to enhance emergency communications and coordination, ensuring first responders can effectively serve citizens across the county's rural communities.

8. $1,000,000 - Bertie County Critical Equipment Upgrades Project
Bertie County will purchase new equipment, including protective gear, breathing apparatus, radios, hoses, and specialized rescue equipment, enhancing the safety and effectiveness of first responders during emergencies.

9. $1,000,000 - Town of Williamston Fire Ladder Engine Truck Project
Williamston will purchase a crucial fire ladder engine truck, enhancing local firefighting capabilities and ensuring families have the protection they need when every second counts.

10. $1,000,000 - Gates County Community Center Project
Gates County will replace the aging facility with a modern space for seniors and families, providing a hub for social activities, health programs, exercise, and community engagement in a rural, economically distressed county.

11. $606,000 - Town of Ahoskie Public Safety Upgrades Project
Ahoskie will purchase patrol vehicles, ballistic shields, helmets, and security cameras to address urgent public safety concerns and deliver the resources the community needs to protect itself.

12. $386,000 - Hertford County Security Program Project
Hertford County will purchase new equipment for the Hertford County Sheriff's Office, including updated in-car cameras and computers for patrol vehicles to combat crime.

13. $250,000 - Town of Williamston Critical Infrastructure Road Repair Project

Williamston will repave key streets to ensure safer travel for pedestrians, drivers, and visitors, while supporting downtown revitalization and economic growth. These much-needed road improvements will make daily commutes safer and smoother for residents and local businesses.

Congressman Davis previously visited the recipients of his other two Community Project Funding awards, Washington Regional Medical Center and Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, meeting with healthcare professionals and military personnel to discuss community needs, operational priorities, and opportunities for federal support that enhance local services and readiness.

14. $1,000,000 - Washington Regional Medical Center Public Health & Safety Facility Upgrades Project

Washington Regional Medical Center will secure critical medical equipment, technology, and infrastructure, ensuring patients receive the critical care they need. The facility, a Critical Access Hospital, plays a vital role in sustaining the health, safety, and economic stability of Washington County, a Tier 1 and federally designated Medically Underserved Area, and surrounding communities.

15. $41,000,000 - Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Combat Arms Training and Maintenance (CATM) Complex Project

Seymour Johnson Air Force Base will replace its existing Combat Arms Training and Maintenance facility, which is severely deteriorated, with a new, modernized structure. The funding will support a single Combat Arms Facility featuring a 35-lane range, classrooms, administrative offices, weapons cleaning and maintenance areas, weapons and ammunition vaults, and range supply storage. Additionally, the facility will include a Security Forces Logistics and Readiness Warehouse with an armory and weapon storage.
