A great success for the spin-off from TU Bergakademie Freiberg: CYNiO GmbH, based in Bitterfeld-Wolfen, has been awarded the Saxony-Anhalt 2026 Business Prize in the "Start-up" category. In doing so, the state is honouring a young company that combines scientific excellence with entrepreneurial courage.
First spun off from TUBAF in 2025, CYNiO is pursuing the goal of rethinking isocyanate production. With a patented, CO₂-based process developed at TUBAF, the company replaces the highly toxic phosgene and enables the production of novel and difficult-to-obtain isocyanates.
What began as a research idea is already close to the market today: its own laboratory, first customers and international collaborations. In a short space of time, CYNiO has positioned itself as a driver of innovation and is specifically tapping into high-growth niche markets.
The award is more than just a prize - it symbolises successful technology transfer and the transformation of the industry.
