Managed service for ClickHouse with database x workload colocation for always hot data
Nirvana Labs (Nirvana), a high performance storage cloud, is announcing a strategic partnership between Nirvana and Altinity, the largest independent managed service provider for ClickHouse. The integration is now generally available as a Bring Your Own Cloud (BYOC) deployment on Altinity.Cloud.
Altinity now offers Nirvana as a BYOC option on its Altinity.Cloud, a managed service for ClickHouse. Customers hold a Nirvana account instead of a hyperscaler account. Altinity manages everything from the database down to Kubernetes, while Nirvana runs the cloud infrastructure below it, including compute, block storage, and networking. The database is co-located with the customer's workload on the same private network, on infrastructure purpose-built for analytical workloads where the database stays hot for real-time applications.
The BYOC integration: Always hot data BYOC stands for Bring Your Own Cloud. Altinity already offers BYOC on AWS, GCP, Azure, and Hetzner. The Nirvana integration adds a new BYOC option. BYOC on hyperscalers come with limits of general-purpose cloud storage (capped IOPS, capped throughput, cross-VPC egress). Altinity.Cloud BYOC on Nirvana frees users from these hyperscaler constraints.
How it works
In the BYOC model, Altinity deploys Nirvana Kubernetes Service (NKS) in Nirvana infrastructure. Altinity deploys its managed service for ClickHouse stack directly onto NKS. From the customer's side, the cluster looks and behaves like any other Altinity-managed ClickHouse deployment, with the operator, monitoring, upgrades, schema migrations, query optimization, and on-call all owned by Altinity. The difference is what's underneath: Nirvana's block storage, ABS, is purpose-built for the most demanding real-time workloads, including sequential analytical reads and writes with the database lives on the same rack as the customer's workload, offering:
Database + workload colocation. Workload and database on the same Nirvana rack to keep your data hot. Microsecond round trips. $0 internal egress.
High-performance storage with proven performance. Backed by Nirvana's Accelerated Block Storage (ABS), with 20K baseline IOPS included, no per-IOP surcharges, and ~2 GB/s sustained per-VM sequential throughput. Most hyperscalers, by default, give you 3,000 IOPS. ClickBench Hardware on identical r7a.16xlarge instances with cold reads shows a ~10× median speedup vs. AWS gp3 across the 43-query suite.
io2-class performance at a fraction of the cost. ABS within 1.5× of AWS io2 on ~77% of queries at roughly 1/8 the cost. On the actual joint stack (SSB at SF=500, 3B rows from disk, working set exceeds RAM): 34 ms warm on the most selective query, ~70M rows/sec sustained on full scans.
