Historic Marker Dedicated at Buccleuch Mansion Ahead of America’s 250th Anniversary

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (June 11, 2026) - An America 250 Patriots Marker was dedicated at the historic Buccleuch Mansion, commemorating the City's significant role in the American Revolution.

The plaque honors the historic contributions and sacrifices of local patriots as the United States approaches its 250th anniversary. The permanent historic marker was installed through a collaborative effort with the Jersey Blue Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), which has served as the caretaker and interior steward of the mansion museum for more than a century.

Constructed in 1739, Buccleuch Mansion, located in Buccleuch Park, carries deep ties to the Revolutionary War. Originally built by Anthony White, the home was later occupied by British officers during the 1777 occupation of New Brunswick. It also served as a meeting place for prominent colonial figures, hosting visits from Gen. George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, and John Hancock.

In addition to viewing the newly dedicated marker, the public can explore the mansion during a free open house tour on Sunday, June 14, coinciding with Flag Day. Guided open house tours by volunteer docents are available on designated Sundays throughout the year from 1 to 4 p.m., with the final tour of the day beginning at 3:30 p.m.
