Rep. Dr. Arlene Beckles Congratulates Three Baldwin Elementary School Students on Completion of ‘AI Sprouts Summer Camp’

ATLANTA - State Representative Arlene Beckles (D-Norcross) congratulates three Baldwin Elementary School students on completing "AI Sprouts: Meet Your AI Friend," a summer camp that seeks to introduce young learners to the basics of artificial intelligence (AI) and technology.

"I'm incredibly proud of these students for stepping into this program and coming out the other side with new skills and new confidence," said Rep. Beckles. "Giving our students early, hands-on exposure to technology like AI is exactly the kind of investment that prepares them for the future, and it's a reminder of the talent we have right here in House District 96."

Rep. Beckles notes that the program, offered by Kaushal Sankalp and powered by Progressive AI Data, is a live, online program for students in grades 3 - 8. She adds that during the four-session program, campers explored how AI works by playing Google's Quick, Draw!, built their own interactive game using Scratch, a kids' coding platform developed by MIT and trained a real AI model using a webcam and Google's Teachable Machine. The camp culminated in a live Demo Day, where students presented the games and AI projects they built to family and fellow campers.

"Programs like this show what's possible when we invest in our young people early," added Rep. Beckles. "I look forward to seeing what these gifted students do next, and I encourage more families in our community to explore opportunities like this one."

During the 2026 legislative session, Rep. Beckles sponsored House Bill 829, which aimed to expand digital literacy across Georgia. Rep. Beckles emphasizes that programs like AI Sprouts are an extension of that effort, giving students real-world opportunities to build the skills the legislation aims to promote.

Representative Arlene Beckles represents the citizens of District 96, which includes a portion of Gwinnett County. She was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2024 and currently serves on the Special Rules, State Properties and Technology and Infrastructure Innovation committees.
