Wisconsin Inmate Receives 15-Year Prison Sentence for Attempting to Entice a Minor While Incarcerated

Brad D. Schimel, First Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, announced that on October 16, 2026, United States District Court Judge Byron B. Conway sentenced Aijalon L. Baldwin (age 36) to 15 years' imprisonment, followed by ten years of supervised release, for attempted enticement of a minor.

According to court records, between February and April 2026, Baldwin engaged in a sustained pattern of sexually exploitative communication with a minor while he was incarcerated at Oshkosh Correctional Institution for a prior conviction of Strangulation and Suffocation. During this period, prison staff intercepted illicit images sent to him, monitored phone calls in which Baldwin discussed sexualized topics with the child, and observed troubling conduct during video visits. In these communications, the defendant also fantasized about strangling the child, echoing the violent conduct underlying his prior conviction.

In pronouncing sentence, Judge Conway noted that the offense reflected a defiant contempt for the prison's rules and for the justice system intended to hold him accountable.

"A prisoner who continues to abuse a child even while confined is truly dangerous," said First Assistant U.S. Attorney Brad Schimel. "There is no alternative but to keep him separated from the rest of society in prison where he will remain for a very long time. This was outstanding work by corrections staff and law enforcement to intercept and terminate Baldwin's outrageous conduct."

"Targeting children in our community is among the worst of the crimes that one could commit" stated Oshkosh Police Chief Dean Smith. "We appreciate the work of the U.S. Attorney's office on prosecuting this case. Our officers will continue to work with all of our law enforcement partners to keep our community safe."

" The Department of Corrections (DOC) takes our mission to protect the public very seriously," said DOC Secretary Jared Hoy. "DOC is grateful our policies and efforts ultimately led to protecting this victim and preventing further victimization, referring this case to law enforcement partners for prosecution, and ensuring accountability for the individual who attempted to engage in further criminal behavior."

This case was investigated by the Oshkosh Police Department and officials at the Oshkosh Correctional Institution. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Alex Duros.
