Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN Hou Yanqi Attends the Second EAS Group Meeting 2025

On 25 June 2025, Ambassador Hou Yanqi attended the Second Meeting of the Group of the East Asia Summit (EAS) Participating Countries' Ambassadors to ASEAN in Jakarta.

Ambassador Hou stated that as this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War and the founding of the United Nations as well as 20th anniversary of the EAS, all parties should learn lessons from history, adhere to true multilateralism and open regionalism, and safeguard the hard-earned and long-lasting peaceful and stable development environment in the region. China is willing to work with all parties to promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, implement the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative, and safeguard the multilateral trading system, to enhance resilience of regional economy and achieve sustainable development.

Ambassador Hou also raised concerns over the United States' unilateral tariff and technology blockade, and the so-called "Indo-Pacific strategy", as well as its attempt to disturb the situation in the South China Sea and Taiwan Strait, interference in the internal affairs of other countries, and unlawful attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities.

The meeting discussed the progress in the implementation of the East Asia Summit Plan of Action 2024-2028 and exchanged views on development cooperation initiatives.
