City of Tampa to Launch Microgrant Program for Small Businesses, Entrepreneurs News Development & Economic Opportunity, News General The City of Tampa will host a kickoff[...]

The City of Tampa will host a kickoff event, Tuesday, April 21st to announce its new Microgrant Program, designed to support low and moderate-income entrepreneurs and small businesses at various stages of growth. The program provides direct financial assistance and expanded access to capital for eligible microenterprises across Tampa.

  • Entrepreneur Grants (1-5 employees, including owner):
    • Startup Businesses (less than 12 months): $1,500
    • Established Businesses (12+ months): $3,000 (business plan required)
  • Down Payment Assistance for Business Financing:
    • Citywide Microenterprise Assistance: up to 20% of a business loan (max $10,000)
    • Fresh Food Initiative: up to 20% of a business loan (max $15,000), supporting businesses that improve access to fresh food in Tampa neighborhoods

To income qualify, business owners must have a household income at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI), which is around $83,000 for a family of four. This initiative underscores the City of Tampa's commitment to fostering economic opportunity, supporting small business growth, and increasing access to capital for local entrepreneurs-particularly those in underserved communities.

"This microgrant program is about removing barriers and creating real opportunities for Tampa's entrepreneurs to start, grow, and sustain their businesses," said Economic Opportunity Director Javier Marin. "By investing in our small business community, we can strengthening neighborhoods, expand access to fresh food, and build a resilient local economy."
