On 23 January, Ambassador Zhao Xiyuan and his spouse attended the 2026 Spring Festival Gala for the Year of the Horse hosted by the All-Ireland Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA). More than 300 Chinese students studying in Ireland and representatives of the Chinese community took part in the event.

Ambassador Zhao extended his New Year greetings to Chinese students in Ireland and spoke highly of their diligence in study, active integration into local society, and positive role as a bridge in promoting people-to-people and cultural exchanges between China and Ireland. He encouraged the students to cherish their overseas study experience, keep their homeland close to heart while maintaining a global outlook, integrate their personal aspirations into the great cause of national rejuvenation, and strive to grow into friendly envoys linking China and Ireland, as well as China and the wider world. He also urged them to strengthen awareness of safe and secure overseas study and to write their own inspiring stories in the tide of the times.

The gala featured a rich and diverse programme, including dance performances, vocal music, traditional Chinese instrumental music, recitations and traditional costume displays, which added to the festive, warm and joyful atmosphere of the evening.

During the event, Ambassador Zhao and his spouse also presented Year of the Horse mascots to the Chinese students.
