Statement from Mayor Steven L. Reed on Jackson Hospital's New Agreement with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama

MONTGOMERY, AL - Jackson Hospital's new agreement with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama is a major step toward long-term stability for one of our community's most critical healthcare institutions. The City has committed $22.5 million; $15 million already provided last April and $7.5 million over the next three years; and Montgomery County has committed $17.5 million, including $10 million in immediate assistance.

Alongside these local investments, the State's Amendment 666 Bonding Commission has authorized up to $40 million in bonds once Jackson emerges from bankruptcy. These combined commitments reflect a unified effort to secure Jackson Hospital's future and protect essential healthcare access for Montgomery and the River Region.

As Jackson Hospital works to finalize its restructuring plan and move toward emergence from bankruptcy, the City will remain steadfast in its support; because a strong healthcare system is foundational to a strong capital city."
