Local Credit Unions Recognized by Newsweek

To recognize the banks and credit unions making a positive impact in their communities, Newsweek has compiled its 2026 list of "America's Best Regional Banks and Credit Unions." Six area credit unions affiliated with the MD|DC Credit Union Association made the list.

The methodology used by Newsweek and Plant-A Insights Group evaluated institutions based on key financial benchmarks such as credit quality, profitability, and net loans and leases. It also incorporated press coverage from the past two years, findings from an independent survey of more than 71,000 U.S. consumers, 1.9 million social media reviews, and 129 million mobile app reviews.

Area credit unions recognized by Newsweek include:

• AFL CIO Employees FCU -District of Columbia
• Del-One FCU - Delaware
• IDB Global FCU - District of Columbia
• Johns Hopkins FCU - Maryland
• NIH FCU - Maryland
• SECU - Maryland
