The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania summoned today the chargé d'affaires ad interim of the Russian Federation in Lithuania and handed a protest note over the continuous shelling of Ukraine.
More than 800 drones and 13 missiles of various types hit residential buildings, schools, kindergartens, and other civilian infrastructure in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities on Sunday. One missile struck the Ukrainian Government building. Two civilians, a young mother with a baby, were killed in the attack by the Russian Federation, and at least 16 other people were injured. On Tuesday, an airstrike on the village of Yarova in eastern Ukraine killed 24 civilians waiting to collect their monthly pension payments and injured nearly twice as many. The number of victims and damage due to another massive Russian attack overnight has not yet been assessed.
With these terrorist actions, Russia demonstrably rejects international efforts to end Russia's military aggression against Ukraine, achieve a ceasefire, and ensure sustainable and lasting peace. It once again demonstrates that all the statements by Russian representatives about openness to negotiations and peace were merely hypocrisy and stalling tactics.
Lithuania also protested the repeated violations of the Polish airspace tonight by the Russian drones. This attack constitutes a menacing escalation against Lithuania's strategic partner and NATO ally, and thus poses a threat to the collective security of NATO as a whole.
In the diplomatic note, the Republic of Lithuania demands an immediate end to the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, the withdrawal of its occupying forces from the entire internationally recognised territory of Ukraine, and compensation for all damage suffered by Ukraine as a result of the Russian aggression.
