Morgan County: Georgia DOT preparing to implement 4-way stop configuration

Madison, Ga. - The Georgia Department of Transportation is preparing to convert the intersection of State Route 83 and Sandy Creek Road into a 4-way stop configuration on Monday, August 10.

Crews are scheduled to change the traffic pattern at this intersection by installing double-indicated stop signs, stop bars, and double-indicated "STOP ahead" signs on SR 83 in both directions. Rumble strips will be added on SR 83 in advance of the intersection in both directions. Reflective red tape will be added to the new stop signposts. On Sandy Creek Rd., the existing stop signs will remain.

To increase visibility, Georgia DOT maintenance crews will remove any vegetation located within the state right of way near the intersection.

Georgia DOT is placing temporary message boards in advance of the intersection to inform drivers of the new configuration. Drivers are still advised to use extra caution in the weeks after the 4-way stop is implemented. Assume drivers on SR 83 are not familiar with the change.

Advisory: Scheduled work date is subject to change depending on weather conditions.
