Senator Marshall: Manufacturing is Booming in Kansas

Senator Marshall Joins Fox Business' Mornings with Maria

Kansas City - U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-Kansas), joined Maria Bartiromo on Fox Business' Mornings with Maria to discuss the Vice President's trip to Kansas City, passing ICE and CBP funding, a third reconciliation bill to lower the cost of living, thriving manufacturing in Kansas, the conflict in Iran, and Kevin Warsh's upcoming swearing in.

On DHS and border patrol funding:

"Well, it's not surprising, this Parliamentarian has always leaned left. And we'll get to work, we're going to fix it at the end of the day - we're going to be able to fund ICE, as well as the border patrol. It sounds like she's happy with the ICE funding, but she's not happy with the border patrol funding. So, we'll have all of our lawyers. Lindsey Graham is a great attorney; he'll be in there, Chairman of the Budget Committee, arguing, getting the language right. At the end of the day, we'll fund ICE, we'll fund border patrol, we'll have to figure out what we can do and not do. But remember the security funding, the billion dollars in security funding, a lot of that was extra funding and training for the Secret Service, and really making the entire White House more secure."

On passing another reconciliation bill:

"Well, it's going to be an uphill battle, but I think our focus should be on the cost of living. We have a package of bills that would drive down the cost of health care. Our price tags would force every health care provider to show their cost up front with more transparency. We could trim back the pharmacy benefit managers some more, a prior authorization bill to force insurance companies to have a streamlined prior authorization process. We should be focused on the cost of housing, on childcare, on property insurance - those things that went up 50% under Joe Biden, that should be our focus. It will be an uphill battle, but we're going to certainly put our shoulder into it and do our best."

On manufacturing in Kansas:

"Yeah, so certainly we owe to Trump the manufacturing jobs all across the state of Kansas. I talked to especially the small manufacturers, their business is absolutely booming. Kansas City itself, home to over 100,000 manufacturing jobs. Think General Motors, think Ford, Panasonic has a big plan here as well, Garmin is up here. So you think about the Vice President's story, and Hillbilly Elegy, how the Rust Belt, and how they lost all those manufacturing jobs in his home area. We don't want that to happen here in Kansas City, and actually just the opposite is happening now. The Working Family Tax Cuts has made it much easier for manufacturers to build things; bonus depreciation is one of them. So, he'll be accounting manufacturing jobs, the Trump agenda that is actually working. Maria, I'm telling you that the economy here in Kansas is really set to go forward this year."

On ending the conflict in Iran:

"Well, look, nobody likes war, no one is celebrating war, but President Trump is absolutely trying to keep Americans safe for generations in the future. I think it's not lost on me, and nor should it be lost by the Iranian regime, is that this meeting is in the situation room, that the military, the Pentagon, is going to come forward to show the president, here's your options: A, B, C, and D, this is what we could do. And then be prepared, right? So the clock is indeed ticking; Iran better be listening, they better be listening hard. This president is not going to waste much more time. Evidently, Iran is going to send us some type of another updated peace agreement today. Hopefully, that will include the end of nuclear weapon development by Iran as well. Could you imagine the Iranian regime with a nuclear weapon, what that would be like? Gas would be $20 a gallon."

On a possible Pentagon supplemental:

"They're going to have to convince me of that, Maria. We give the military a trillion dollars a year, and just like every agency in the United States government, I think there's 10-20% fraud, waste, and abuse. I think a trillion dollars is more than enough money. I'm disappointed that they've been building million-dollar missiles to take out a $6 drone. I think they can be much more frugal with their money. The biggest challenge to America, and you know this as well, is our national debt. I don't think we can afford the $1.5 trillion, nor is it necessary. Europe needs to pick up their pace, NATO needs to pick up their pace, we need to be more efficient as well. So, I'm going to be a hard sell to increase that trillion dollars."

"Yeah, that's right. And look, I believe in peace through strength. My boyhood hero, President Eisenhower coined that term. President Reagan used it, I believe, but I think a trillion dollars is plenty."

On Kevin Warsh as the chair of the Federal Reserve:

"Yeah, I sure hope so, Maria. And I'm very optimistic - Kevin, I think will be a steady hand. Wall Street, small businesses, we all like a steady hand. I expect him to start looking at the Fed's balance sheet first and foremost. We will get the gas price down again, and that will allow him, I think, to bring interest rates down as well. So we're all looking forward to it, and he cannot get sworn in soon enough."
