City Manager's Highlights

City Council approves quality of life measures

The Santa Ana City Council and the City's executive team are continually working to enhance the quality of life of our residents with new programs, services and improvements. The City Council approved measures to provide new recreational opportunities for residents, to protect children and families' health, and to fix roadways and sidewalks at their March 3, 2026, meeting, including:

  • New rules to regulate smoke shops, restricting where and how they can operate; keeping them away from schools, parks, homes, and childcare facilities; and requiring annual inspections. Read more here.
  • A new management contract for River View Golf Course, giving the City more direct oversight and to create new recreational opportunities for Santa Ana residents, community programming and long-term investments in this regional golfing destination. Read more here.
  • $4.6 million in funding for two road and sidewalk projects on Fairview Street from Sunflower to Alton avenues, and on Grand Avenue from Edinger to McFadden avenues. Read more hereand here.
  • An ordinance that will protect renters by banning certain rent-setting computer software algorithms that landlords can use to artificially inflate rents. Read more here.

City honored by Orange County Business Council for economic development

We're proud to announce that our City of Santa Ana team was recently recognized during the 15th Annual Turning Red Tape into Red Carpet Awards, held by the Orange County Business Council. Since 2010, the program has honored outstanding local agencies, programs and public-private partnerships that cut through red tape and encourage jobs and economic growth in Orange County.

This year, we earned Honorable Mention in the Economic Development category for streamlining our entitlement process for the development of new projects, such as much-needed housing as well as commercial developments that will attract new businesses and jobs. By collaborating closely with private developers and community stakeholders, we have enabled large, complex projects to move forward in under two years.

Congratulations to our dedicated Planning and Building Agency staff for this well-deserved recognition and for continuing to deliver smart, efficient solutions that benefit our community and local economy!
