The Buffalo State Foundation is proud to embark on a new chapter of collaboration with other campus events to generate critical funds for student scholarships and financial aid, as well as enhance the Buffalo State experience.
The Foundation's first collaborative effort is its 28th Annual Buffalo State Foundation Golf Tournament, which, this year, is being held in partnership with Buffalo State Athletics' 42nd Annual Bengal Club Golf Classic. The event takes place August 4 at Pendleton Creek Golf Club.
"We are excited to continue to grow our Bengal Club Golf Classic in our forty-second year," said Jeffrey Ventura, officer in charge of Buffalo State Athletics. "This tournament serves as one of our most significant fundraising events to support the opportunities we provide to more than 450 student athletes. We are excited to work in concert with the Foundation this year to maximize the success of both events."
While Athletics continues to champion support for its programs, the addition of the Foundation's tournament brings a broader focus to the event, allowing attendees to learn more about Buffalo State's investments in student success.
One innovative way in which golfers can give back is through the "Golf for GRIT Birdie," which allows participants to make gifts to the GRIT Scholarship in exchange for an automatic birdie on a hole of their choosing. The GRIT scholarship provides merit-based aid and faculty mentorship to students nominated by professors and campus advocates.
In addition to fundraising, the tournament provides opportunities for connection. The "Bengal Meet & Putt" experience invites golfers to engage with Buffalo State faculty and staff. Representatives from the Art Conservation, Exceptional Education, and Theater Departments, as well as the university's Anne Frank Project; Career and Professional Education Center; Educational Opportunity Program; Small Business Development Center; and offices of Continuing Professional Studies, Student Affairs, and Veteran and Military Services. These Bengal guests will take turns putting for players, maybe even helping them sink winning shots.
Dillon Hayes, '16, Pendleton Creek PGA's Head Golf Pro, said he is excited to host his alma mater.
"As an alum, it's great to see familiar faces come together on the golf course to help the university succeed," he said. "It's a fun way to stay connected and give back to a place that means a lot to me."
With all events, the Buffalo State Foundation emphasizes authenticity, inclusivity, and meaningful engagement. This new cross-campus collaboration reflects Buffalo State's strategic plan and ongoing commitment to supporting students from first point of contact through graduation and beyond.
