WASHINGTON, D.C. - Equality California released the following statement from Executive Director Tony Hoangon the inauguration of Donald J. Trump as the 47th President of the United States:

"Today, as Donald J. Trump is inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the fight for full equality and justice for all LGBTQ+ people.

During his first term in the White House, we witnessed a concerted effort to undermine and eliminate protections for LGBTQ+ people across the federal government. Based on his own campaign promises-and his nomination of extremists to key cabinet positions-we expect the second Trump administration to continue its attacks against LGBTQ+ Americans.

We are working in close coordination with pro-equality legislators in Sacramento and D.C. and alongside California's vast network of LGBTQ+ and allied organizations to further protect our rights and ensure that California remains a safe haven for LGBTQ+ people across the country.

While the new administration represents uncertainty for many in our community, we will remain vigilant in holding our leaders accountable for our nation's Constitutional principles of freedom, equality, and justice.

We take inspiration from those who have come before us-leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.-who remind us that while progress is never easy when we remain unified in pursuit of justice, we can and will prevail.

To LGBTQ+ people everywhere and their families, please know we see you, we hear you, and we will always stand with you. You are not alone in this fight. Equality California will continue to stand with you, advocating tirelessly for your rights, safety, and dignity."
