At the Cabinet's weekly meeting Thursday, Premier Cho Jung-tai received a Ministry of Labor (MOL) report on a plan to enhance the use of transnational labor. The premier said that, with Taiwan's domestic labor workforce steadily shrinking, the government must improve domestic labor participation, wages and employment conditions, while also tackling industry labor shortages and promoting a system where both employers and employees can thrive.

He emphasized that the plan follows the principle of prioritizing local workers while safeguarding the rights of transnational workers, with a focus on raising local wages, increasing migrant worker quotas and easing retention rules for experienced migrant workers. In addition, the government will advance measures to introduce more foreign technical personnel into the hospitality and commercial port sectors.

Premier Cho also noted that the MOL will establish new overseas recruitment centers starting in the first quarter of 2026 to boost administrative efficiency, as well as to ensure fair recruitment practices and labor rights protections for transnational workers.
