Smart Irrigation Month

July is Smart Irrigation Month, which is a time to learn about efficient watering strategies. Below are a couple of irrigation tips to keep your watering efficient.

1. Check Your Irrigation- If you have automatic irrigation, run it during the day once a month and perform a walk-through of your landscape. Check for any broken nozzles or drip lines, water spraying onto sidewalks, or runoff into the gutter.
2. Use Mulch- Spreading a layer of mulch around your plants can help reduce water evaporation and give water time to soak into the soil below. Be sure to follow fire safety guidelines for mulching near your home.
3. Time Your Watering- Be sure to water after sunset and before sunrise. This gives water more time to soak into your soil before the heat of the day when evaporation peaks.
