Sunnyvale Celebrates Beam,
Its New Public Rideshare Service

WHAT:

The City of Sunnyvale is celebrating the arrival of Sunnyvale Beam, its new public, on-demand rideshare service offering trips throughout the city. The community launch celebration will feature City leaders, a ribbon-cutting, and opportunities for media to experience Beam firsthand.

Beam expands transportation options throughout Sunnyvale, providing an affordable and convenient way for people to get to work, school, appointments, shopping, regional transit and other destinations across the city. The all-electric, shared-ride service is part of the City's investment in creating a more connected, accessible and sustainable transportation network.

Beam began serving riders Aug. 18. The Sept. 1 launch celebration will bring together City leaders, community members and project partners to officially welcome the new service.

ABOUT SUNNYVALE BEAM

Sunnyvale Beam is a public, on-demand rideshare service that gives residents, workers, students and visitors another convenient way to travel throughout Sunnyvale. Riders can use Beam for everyday trips or to connect with Caltrain and VTA's Light Rail and local bus service. Book a ride using the Sunnyvale Beam app or by calling 408-547-9943.

SERVICE AT A GLANCE

  • Service area: Anywhere in Sunnyvale plus two nearby locations - Homestead High School and Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara Medical Center
  • Hours: Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.; weekends, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Holiday hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day
  • Fare: $3.50 per ride
  • Reduced fare: $1.75 for seniors (65+), people with disabilities, low-income riders and youth ages 13-18
  • Additional passengers: $1 each
  • New rider offer: First three rides free

Sunnyvale Beam is funded in part by California's Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program. Its all-electric fleet supports the City's goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and expand sustainable transportation options. Via operates the service under a contract with the City of Sunnyvale.
