WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senators Mark R. Warner and Tim Kaine (both D-VA) released the following statement after President Donald Trump released his Fiscal Year 2027 discretionary budget request to Congress:
"Americans across the country are getting crushed by rising costs on energy, food, housing, and everything in between. Instead of ending his war of choice with Iran that is actively driving prices even higher, President Trump is once again revving up a chainsaw to slash important government programs that Americans rely on. Today's budget request would dramatically cut funding for economic development grants, housing programs, schools, teacher training programs, violence prevention grants, vital health research initiatives, and renewable energy investments that would create jobs and lower costs. The fact that this ridiculous proposal is coming from an Administration that moved heaven and earth last year to cut taxes for the uber-wealthy while slashing health care for working families makes it even more heartless. When will the White House finally put everyday Americans first?"
