Bellflower Sees Drop in Overall Crime Rate

Keeping Bellflower a safe and vibrant community remains a top priority for the City Council, the Public Safety Department and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department . Through proactive enforcement, creative solutions, and strategic investments, the city's summer public safety recap highlights measurable progress, including a 18.9% decrease in Part I crimes year-to-date compared to 2025.

This trend is led by declines in major property and personal crimes. Residential burglaries are down 43%, vehicle burglaries have decreased by 52%, robberies dropped by 24% and stolen vehicles saw a 16% decline.

The Public Safety Department and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department are monitoring seasonal and regional crime trends, including catalytic converter thefts, mail theft and stolen vehicles. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant by securing vehicles, collecting mail promptly and reporting suspicious activity immediately.

These positive results follow targeted investments made by the City Council over the past year to equip local law enforcement with modern tools to prevent and solve crime. Key enhancements include the deployment of a gunshot detection system, dedicated traffic enforcement deputies and the creation of the Bellflower Enforcement and Safety Team (BEAST) to focus on homeless outreach and encampment issues. Additionally, Bellflower strengthened regional safety efforts through the Station Cities Public Safety Joint Powers Authority, joining Lakewood and Paramount to share public safety resources and address cross-boundary crime.

Looking ahead, the City welcomes Captain Juan Briseno as the new Captain of the Lakewood Sheriff's Station and looks forward to working closely with him to keep Bellflower safe.
