Big Data Research Presented at AAO 2025 Drives New Insights in Patient Care

American Academy of Ophthalmology's IRIS Registry powers 22 new clinical studies

ORLANDO, Fla. - The IRIS® Registry (Intelligent Research in Sight) powered 22 new studies that will be presented this week at the 129^th annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

The IRIS Registry is the nation's first and largest comprehensive eye disease registry. It currently includes data from more than 840 million patient visits. It is the basis for real-world studies on practice patterns, factors affecting clinical outcomes, complications and possible risk factors for disease development. To date, the IRIS Registry has advanced patient care through 180 peer-reviewed publications. Research to be featured this week include:

In Person and On Demand Presentations

• Dry to Neovascular AMD Conversion After Cataract Surgery. Results suggest cataract surgery may be associated with a lower risk of conversion to neovascular AMD. Session PA016. Helia Ashourizadeh, MD.
• New-Onset Anterior Uveitis After Cataract Surgery. Risk factors for anterior uveitis after cataract surgery included Black and Asian descent, younger age, and complex eye surgery. Session PA055. Laurel Tainsh, MD.

• Extended Dosing Intervals for Anti-VEGF Injections. Real-world Eylea and Vabysmo injection intervals in nAMD and DME patients were not as frequently reduced as in Phase 3 studies. Session PO611. William Freeman, MD.
