On January 29, 2026, the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Nurlan Yermekbayev sent a video address to the participants of the regular meeting of the General Assembly - the General Meeting of the World People's Assembly members, which was held in Moscow.
In his address Nurlan Yermekbayev informed about the work carried out by the Organization to develop the institution of people's diplomacy. He emphasized the important contribution of the SCO Centers for People's Diplomacy and SCO Goodwill Ambassadors in creating conditions for deepening an atmosphere of friendship and trust, promoting interfaith and inter-civilizational dialogue, and disseminating knowledge about the rich historical heritage and traditions of the member states.
The Secretary-General highlighted that people's diplomacy serves as a vital link between the world of official politics and the people. It communicates the importance of decisions made, explaining their significance for ensuring the security of countries and regions, improving living standards and well-being, and strengthening trust and mutual understanding among peoples.
The International Union of Non-Governmental Organizations "Assembly of the Peoples of the World" brings together public structures and citizens who share and promote the ideas and values of Eurasian integration, the protection of peace, and the strengthening of friendship, harmony, partnership, and good neighborliness.
