During a visit to Brussels, Secretary Roberto Velasco held a productive meeting with Maxime Prévot, Foreign Minister of Belgium, to strengthen diplomatic ties and expand cooperation between the two countries.
Secretary Velasco thanked Minister Prévot for the warm welcome and for the readiness to engage in dialogue on shared priorities, including increased efforts in economic exchange, cultural collaboration, semiconductors, and the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, among other areas.
The two officials signed the Agreement on Gainful Employment for Dependents of Diplomatic Personnel. This agreement allows family members of diplomatic staff in both countries to engage in paid work, with their labor rights fully safeguarded, thereby contributing to improved living conditions.
While in Brussels, Secretary Velasco met with the Mexican community living in the city and surrounding areas. During the cordial meeting, the Foreign Secretary reminded them of the Ministry's continued support and noted that President Sheinbaum has made it clear that Mexico's nationals in Belgium and around the world are a central priority of Mexico's foreign policy.
The Secretary concluded his visit by speaking with staff at Mexico's mission in Belgium, led by Ambassador Rogelio Granguillhome. He commended their work in strengthening Mexico's presence and ties in Belgium and the European Union, as well as their efforts on behalf of the Mexican nationals living in Belgium.
