Storm Recovery Resources and Damage Assessment Information

The recent severe storms and flooding caused significant damage across the City of Kettering. Please see the following for damage assessments and other assistance:

City Damage Assessments

Kettering Planning and Development Department inspectors will make written assessments of damage that can be used for insurance purposes. If your home or property was damaged, please call Planning and Development at (937) 296-2441 or email [email protected] to request an inspection.

Any resident with storm or flood damage can request an assessment for insurance purposes, whether or not the property is in a designated flood hazard area. The City conducts these assessments, writes a report, and creates a record you can use with your insurance company.

Report the Damage to Montgomery County, Too

Montgomery County has created a Public Damage Assessment Form so residents can self-report property damage. This helps the County identify impacts across the region. Reporting to the County supplements, but does not replace, contacting the City, so please do both.

The following programs and services may be helpful following property damage. These are not disaster-assistance programs unless specifically identified as such. Eligibility, services, and funding vary by program.

Sewer Backup and Environmental Services

• Montgomery County Environmental Services: Report sewer backups through the 24-hour emergency line at 937-781-2678.
• Environmental Services Damage Claims / Foundation Drain Disconnect Program: Information for residents who believe their property was damaged in connection with Environmental Services, and for eligible customers experiencing certain basement flooding or sewer-backup issues.

Insurance

• Ohio Department of Insurance Consumer Services: For questions about an insurance company, coverage, or claim handling, call 800-686-1526 or file a complaint online.

Damaged Property and Property Taxes

• Montgomery County Auditor Damaged Property Program: Owners whose property sustained qualifying damage may be eligible for a temporary reduction in taxable value.
• Montgomery County Homeowner Resources: Additional homeowner assistance programs.

Other Community Resources

• HelpLink 211: Dial 211 or 937-225-3000 for connection to housing, food, utilities, transportation, health services, and other assistance.
• Montgomery County PRC Emergency Aid: Eligible households in a short-term crisis may qualify for help with rent/mortgage, utilities, emergency shelter, home repairs, or other qualifying expenses.

Home Repair Resources

• Miami Valley Community Action Partnership, Emergency Home Repair: Help may be available to eligible homeowners for emergency repairs addressing health and safety concerns.
• County Corp, Home Repair Programs: Home repair and accessibility assistance for qualifying residents, based on location, income, and available funding.
• Habitat for Humanity of Greater Dayton, Critical Repair Program: Assistance with critical health, safety, accessibility, and code-related repairs for qualifying homeowners.
• Rebuilding Together Dayton: Critical repairs and accessibility modifications for qualifying low-income homeowners age 60 and older.
• Dayton Home Repair Network: Connects eligible households with home repair, weatherization, and energy-efficiency programs.
