Council to consider final reading of sober living home regulations ordinance and grant-funded public safety tool

The City Council on Tuesday, April 8 will consider a final reading of a sober living home regulations ordinance as well as the purchase of a public safety tool, among other business.

The business portion of the meeting starts at 6 pm in the Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center.

At the March 25 meeting, the Council conducted a public hearing to consider an ordinance for "Group Home and Sober Living Home Regulations" to address these facilities located in Mission Viejo. It passed unanimously, and the ordinance on Tuesday's agenda is for final adoption.

The Council will also consider the purchase of a Flock Automated License Plate Reader System. Flock Safety is an Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system that enhances crime prevention and public safety with real-time alerts, aiding in missing persons and child abduction cases, and assisting with crime investigation, deterrence and data-driven policing. The technology is used by most Orange County cities; more than 2,000 police departments nationwide; and the Orange County Sheriff's Department for over 15 years. Funding for the purchase has been secured through a federal grant.

In other news, the Council will receive a presentation by the Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District about a promising new tool that could help combat the spread of mosquito-borne diseases.

Council Members will also proclaim April as National Donate Life Month. The designation is designed to educate the public about organ and tissue donation and to honor and remember donors and the lives they have saved and healed.

City Council meetings are streamed live on the City's website and air on Cox Channel 30 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99. Residents are encouraged to sign up for the City's eNewsletter and follow the City's official social media sites for the most accurate, up-to-date information.
