Wilcox County road closing for bridge replacement

WILCOX COUNTY - Cannonville Road is scheduled to close Nov. 2 for replacement of the Brushy Creek bridge, requiring non-local traffic to detour.

The road will be closed for a maximum 180 calendar days. The beginning date of the detour may be impacted by weather. The detour will be marked with message boards and signs. The detour roads for non-local/through traffic will be Christian Hill Road, Gordon Road and State Route 233.

The bridge was built in 1964. It is deficient and posted for weight limits due to its insufficient load carrying capacity. It is being replaced as part of the Georgia Department of Transportation's Low Impact Bridge Program, which helps reduce the number of deficient bridges across the state. The construction contract is $2.3 million.
The Georgia Department of Transportation is committed to providing a safe, seamless and sustainable transportation system that supports Georgia's economy and is sensitive to both its citizens and its environment.
