Edwards Announces Additional Helene Recovery Funding

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Chuck Edwards (NC-11) announced the release of $70 million in FEMA Public Assistance and Hazard Mitigation Grant Program funds to support North Carolina's recovery from Hurricane Helene. Funding secured for North Carolina's 11th District includes the following projects:

  • $40,230,874 to Avery County for debris removal.
  • $7,262,668 to the City of Asheville to reimburse Hurricane Helene management and emergency support costs.
  • $1,434,192 to Buncombe County for debris removal.
  • $20,932,918 to Yancey County for debris removal.
  • $2,699,321 to Haywood County for flood mitigation projects, funding the acquisition and demolition of 14 flood-prone properties.
  • $3,870,893 to Avery County for flood mitigation projects, funding the acquisition and demolition of 13 flood-prone properties.

Congressman Edwards worked directly with White House officials, FEMA, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, and colleagues in the North Carolina delegation to expedite FEMA's reimbursement process, prioritize recovery, and secure critical funding.

"Communities across Western North Carolina are continuing the long process of rebuilding after Hurricane Helene, and that work isn't finished until every family, business, and local government has the support they need," said Congressman Edwards. "Funding that fully covers the cost of debris removal for rural counties ensures that local resources can go toward rebuilding roads, homes, and businesses rather than shouldering disaster expenses themselves."
