Kenneth Taylor appointed to Higher Learning Commission council

Dr. Kenneth Taylor

A Henderson State University professor will soon be helping make decisions and recommendations affecting institutions of higher learning across much of the nation.

Dr. Kenneth Taylor, director of Teacher Education Admissions/Clinical Experiences, has been appointed to the Higher Learning Commission's Institutional Action Council (IAC) for a four-year term beginning Sept. 1.

The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) is one of six regional institutional accreditors in the United States. It accredits colleges and universities in 19 states, primarily in the Midwest.

HLC peer review teams conduct site visits and assess institutions against HCL's criteria for accreditation.

The IAC reviews the team's findings and either makes a decision or forwards a recommendation to the HLC Board of Trustees.

HLC accreditation is required for institutions to access federal student aid. It serves as a "quality signal" for students, employers, and other institutions.
