DENVER - The Colorado Democratic Party welcomes the defeat of Amendment 85, preserving safeguards that help voters understand how ballot measures could affect their taxes and public services.
Democrats support clear, readable ballot questions. The party opposed Amendment 85 because its restrictions could keep important financial information from reaching voters when they make those decisions. The corporate-funded dark money groups that attempt to undermine our democracy with initiatives meant to confuse or mislead voters such as this one have a corrosive impact on our elections.
"Plain language should help people understand what they're voting on," said Colorado Democratic Party Chair Shad Murib. "It shouldn't become a reason to leave out who pays more, who pays less or what a proposal means for their local school. The dark money groups that mask undermining voters or rigging elections as reform are a growing challenge in this state, and we're grateful to voters for rejecting this measure."
