Numerous ideas and messages were delivered at the opening ceremony of the 62nd Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union General Assembly and Associated Meetings.
Held in the stunning Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar, the annual event brought together ABU members, invited guests, and partners to discuss what's shaping the media landscape.
During the opening ceremony, Ms. Gerel Gankhuyag, the Director General of the Mongolian National Broadcaster, stated that media is the voice of the people and plays a crucial role in preserving language, culture, and traditions. She also noted that the majority of social media users are young, highlighting the great need to reach them through both traditional and social media.
Ms. Gankhuyag said the GA is not only a forum for sharing experiences but also a stage for standing together for the betterment of humankind.
ABU Vice President and NHK Executive VP, Inoue Tatsuhiko, said the industry stands at a crossroads amid the sweeping tide of digital transformation.
He added that the use of smartphones by the younger generation means more people are moving away from traditional radio and television, and that the media industry must now adapt to this shift in behavior."
