A Big Win on Earth Day!

A Big Win on Earth Day!

April 24, 2026

Hello,

This Earth Day, our collective fight to protect our environment and public lands is more urgent than ever. We face a pivotal moment in history as the Trump administration continues to attack the health and wellbeing of our families, defends polluters over people, and blatantly tries to unravel American democracy.

The same administration that swore to deliver lower energy costs to working families has betrayed the American people and our planet. They're handing our public lands and waters to Big Oil, helping billionaires get richer, and leaving the rest of the country to fend for themselves against unnecessarily high costs.

My Democratic colleagues and I are appalled by the administration and Republican Members of Congress for their willingness to bow down to Trump and abandon all rational decision-making. We are pushing back from every angle to protect you and our environment.

Hear from Natural Resources Democrats this Earth Day

On Earth Day, I gathered with some of my Democratic colleagues, climate leaders, and folks on the front lines of the climate fight for an emergency strategy session. We went over what we've been facing under Trump 2.0, the policies we're pushing to fight back, and how we can all move together to tackle this and build a more resilient future.

At a time when we should be taking action to protect our environment, Republicans are throwing sledgehammers at progress and handing out favors to their corporate billionaire buddies. Just this week, on Earth Day no less, we had a major battle over endangered species protections - and we won!

House Republicans planned to pass their bill to completely eviscerate the Endangered Species Act. That bill would legalize a bunch of bad ideas that Big Oil has pushed for decades, finally made possible by a billion-dollar backroom deal to elect Trump.

I led the fight against it here in the halls of Congress. But folks from all over the country - people of every political stripe - called and urged their Members of Congress to oppose this bill and stand up for the wildlife in their communities. Finally, Republican leadership saw the writing on the wall and they cancelled the vote.

It was an amazing win and inspiring to see us all come together to fight for what we know is right. That is who we are as a country. We protect what we love, and we pass it on.

Every day is Earth Day. I want to leave a planet where our children inherit the same wild beauty we were lucky enough to grow up with. I am grateful for the work each of you to reach that goal and that you've entrusted me to fight alongside you.

And don't forget, whether you need help working with a federal agency or information about legislation and policy, my staff and I are here to support you. If you need assistance, you can submit a Casework Authorization Form on my website.
