Boulder Police Arrest Man Following Domestic Disturbance Incident

BOULDER, Colo. - Boulder Police arrested a male suspect Tuesday evening following an hours-long incident that began as a domestic disturbance call in the 3700 block of Canfield Street near Independence Road. The victim was safely removed from the situation without injuries.

At approximately 12:49 p.m., Boulder Police received a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance in the area. Officers arrived minutes later.

During the response, officers received additional information that raised concerns for the safety of an individual inside the residence. After multiple attempts to deescalate the situation and establish contact with the suspect, officers requested specialized resources, including SWAT, to help resolve the situation safely.

As a precaution, shelter-in-place notifications were sent to approximately 255 contacts in the surrounding area. Officers also assisted with the evacuation of a nearby childcare facility, Growing Minds Learning Academy, supporting parents by routing them safely to pick up their kids. The evacuation was completed shortly before 5 p.m.

The suspect was taken into custody at 5:37 p.m., and the victim was safely removed from the situation.

Shannon Houser, age 51, was arrested on the following charges: 1st degree criminal trespass and criminal violation of a protection order. He was booked into the Boulder County Jail.

The shelter-in-place order was lifted just before 6:00 p.m. and roads in the area have reopened.
