Ameresco and Memphis Light, Gas and Water Recognized with Tennessee Governor’s Environmental Stewardship Award

Citywide streetlight project recognized for modernizing critical public infrastructure and strengthening reliability for the City of Memphis

FRAMINGHAM, MA, and MEMPHIS, TN, September 16, 2026 - Ameresco, Inc., (NYSE: AMRC), a leading energy infrastructure company delivering integrated solutions to create reliable power and modernize infrastructure, together with Memphis Light, Gas and Water (MLGW), today announced that their streetlight modernization project has been named a recipient of the 2026 Tennessee Governor's Environmental Stewardship Award in the "Energy and Renewable Resources" category. The award, now in its 40th year, recognizes organizations for their commitment to preserving Tennessee's natural resources.

Ameresco collaborated with MLGW, the City of Memphis, and technology provider Ubicquia to convert more than 77,000 streetlights citywide to advanced LED fixtures with connected, networked controls. The $54 million project gave MLGW a modernized system built for long-term reliability, replacing aging fixtures with infrastructure designed to keep pace with the city's growth.

The project reflects both organizations' commitment to modernizing infrastructure that supports daily life across Memphis. The upgraded system helps MLGW make better use of existing power infrastructure by reducing load, improving efficiency, and extending the value of existing assets, while giving crews real-time visibility to respond to issues faster.

That reliability extends to broader public systems, with the networked controls also giving Memphis a future-ready platform capable of supporting additional smart city technologies as needs evolve. The project is also designed to help reduce electricity consumption by more than 37,000 megawatt-hours annually, and greenhouse gas emissions by more than15,000 metric tons each year.
