UNI once again receives recognition as transfer-friendly institution

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa has once again been named to Phi Theta Kappa's Transfer Honor Roll, which recognizes excellence in the development and support of dynamic and innovative pathways for community college transfer students. UNI is among just 228 colleges and universities to receive this distinction.

"Transfer students truly enrich the UNI campus," said Terri Crumley, director of admissions at UNI. "Nearly a third of our undergraduate students at UNI are transfer students, and we appreciate the diverse backgrounds and perspectives they bring to our campus. The University of Northern Iowa is deeply dedicated to the success of our students, and this award exemplifies that commitment. Being named among the nation's most supportive universities for transfer students in the Transfer Honor Roll is a testament to UNI's strong commitment to student success on our campus."

The Transfer Honor Roll is determined by 40 key metrics related to the support and success of transfer students, including college cost and financial aid, campus life for transfer, admission practices and bachelor's degree completion. The Transfer Honor Roll is based on analysis from the National Student Clearinghouse, and on data submitted through the four-year institution's profile on PTK Connect, Phi Theta Kappa's online tool designed to help students find their best-fit colleges and career pathways.

Colleges completing the PTK Connect profile are given a Transfer Friendliness Rating. The Honor Roll is chosen from among the top 25 percent highest-rated colleges.

One of the ways UNI allows for a seamless transfer experience is through the UNI at Iowa Community Colleges (UNI@IACC)program. Started in 2022, this initiative allows placebound and adult learners with an associate's degree from an Iowa community college to earn a bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa online. UNI@IACC currently has 484 students enrolled, a 14% increase from the previous year and 92% increase from 2022. Future Ready Scholarships are available to UNI@IACC students, covering the difference between UNI and community college tuition.

Students interested in transferring can also sign up for UNI's Transfer Connection program. Transfer Connection helps students seamlessly transition from community college to UNI and receive guidance on course selection, degree progress and other academic goals.
