6 March 2026, Baku - During his first official visit to Baku, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, Mihai Popșoi, met with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.
The discussions focused on the development of Moldova-Azerbaijan relations and prospects for deepening bilateral cooperation in areas such as the economy, energy, culture and tourism. The Moldovan official noted Azerbaijan's role in strengthening regional and European energy security in the context of current geopolitical developments.
The head of Moldovan diplomacy reiterated the Republic of Moldova's support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan. At the same time, Minister Mihai Popșoi condemned the drone attacks of 5 March against the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, which targeted civilian sites and resulted in the injury of two civilians.
"The Republic of Moldova expresses its solidarity with Azerbaijan. Such actions are unacceptable and run counter to international law," said Mihai Popșoi.
The officials reaffirmed their interest in strengthening political dialogue and making full use of the cooperation potential between the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
