$105 Million Annual Rate Change Proposed by Philadelphia Gas Works Suspended Until After Full PUC Investigation

HARRISBURG - The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to suspend and investigate a proposed rate increase by Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW), for natural gas distribution service to approximately 518,000 customers in the City of Philadelphia.

The Commission voted 5-0 to investigate PGW's proposal to increase its annual operating revenues for natural gas distribution service by $105 million (15.7%).

The changes proposed by PGW would increase the average bill for a residential customer using 61 Mcf per year from $92.60 per month to $104.61 per month (13%).

The rate increase request is suspended and will be assigned to the PUC's Office of Administrative Law Judge for evidentiary hearings and the issuance of a recommended decision. A final PUC decision is due by November 28, 2025.

More information on the ratemaking process is available on the Commission's website.
