Yesterday evening and overnight (Fri 13th Feb), Dublin City experienced exceptionally heavy rainfall. A total of 46mm was recorded at the Mellowes Road rain gauge, with 9.6mm falling within a single hour. Combined with already saturated ground conditions, this resulted in significant surface water runoff and a number of flooding incidents across the city.
Dublin City Council emergency crews were deployed throughout the night and continue to respond today. While rainfall has eased, river levels remain elevated and conditions are being closely monitored.
Significant impacts were reported in several areas, including Clongriffin and Ballymun, where localised flooding affected roads and properties. In Clongriffin, a foul sewer surcharged, resulting in road damage and property flooding. DCC On-Call Staff together with Dublin Fire Brigade responded to make the site safe. DCC are continuing to coordinate with Uisce Eireann and other agencies.
Public safety remains the priority. The Public are advised to exercise caution, avoid driving through flooded roads, and report urgent issues through the Council's emergency contact channels.
A full review of the event has commenced in parallel with ongoing responses, including the timeliness of weather warnings/forecasts. We recognise the distress flooding can cause for residents and businesses and will continue to provide updates as further verified information becomes available.
